Located in the Khandwa district, Omkareshwar is one of India’s holiest cities, known for the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga on the sacred Omkar Parvat. This divine mountain, shaped like the Sanskrit word “Om,” signifies the source of all mantras and is believed to be essential to any spiritual journey.
In Omkareshwar, Lord Shiva himself is present as Jyotirlinga and Swayambhu linga (self-manifested ), and merely having his darshan fulfills all desires. Since ancient times, Lord Shiva has been worshiped here in various forms. During their Agyatvaas (exile), the Pandavas also worshiped here and established several temples, which remain as they were. This beautiful city is located at the confluence of the sacred Narmada and Kaveri rivers and is divided into three regions—Shivpuri, Brahmpuri, and Vishnupuri—where 33 crore deities reside eternally with their families.
Omkareshwar is conveniently located about 78 km from Indore and 70 km from Khandwa, making it easily accessible from these cities. It is slightly off the Indore-Ichhapur highway, and the nearest towns are Sanawad (13 km away) and Mortakka (12 km away).
