In our experience, we had to break up our car rental, renting two different cars for a trip through that region. I do not have a rental car company to recommend, and it can be a puzzle putting together the trip, but you may have to research multiple rental car companies and use then for different portions of your trip. You could start with the website AutoEurope.com, to do a broad search for rental car companies along your route, rather than looking at multiple rental car company websites. Good luck! Cheers, Julie

Hi Julie, Thank you for all of this great information! We are traveling around the Balkan region in October, starting in Athens and then driving to Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Albania before returning to Athens. We’re super excited for this trip, but we just found out that Alamo will not allow us to take their car on this trip. We had to cancel the rental with them, but we are struggling to find a rental company that will allow us to take a car to these countries and provide us with the green card and documentation needed. We have driven all over other parts of Europe with no problems, but this region has different rules. Do you have any suggestions on who to rent a car from? Thank you! Steve

In reply to Shankar. I don't recall what rental car company we used, as it has been a few years now, but most likely it was either Avis or Hertz, as those are the ones we most frequently use. You would have to check on the terms and conditions of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card if it covers CDW. Cheers, Julie
