Hello Rachel. We visited the park in January and loved it. It is a beautiful time to visit the Virgin Islands. If you haven’t seen it yet, we have a US Virgin Islands itinerary that could be helpful in planning your time. It also covers St. Thomas, so you can ignore that part of the itinerary if you aren’t going there, but the itinerary could still be helpful for planning your national park time. But I think you have a good plan. After the Ram Head Trail, Little Lameshur Beach is a quiet beach that is nearby, but you will need a 4×4 to get to it. If that isn’t possible, you could go to Francis Bay Beach or Maho Bay Beach, keeping your fingers crossed you get a parking spot. After the Reef Bay Trail, it’s worth trying to get a parking spot at Trunk Bay, but if that doesn’t work out, you could do Cinnamon Bay Beach or Denis Bay. You will just have to hope that your timing works out, and someone is leaving when you are arriving. Cheers, Julie

My husband and I are traveling to St. John in January 2025 and will have three full days in the park. We’re considering reserving a guided snorkeling tour to the British Virgin Islands, as I’m not a strong swimmer and feel more comfortable snorkeling with a guide.

For the other two days, our plan is to go hiking in the mornings—Ram Head Trail on the first day and Reef Bay Trail on the second. In the afternoons, we’d like to relax and visit some beaches.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate your advice:

1. Does this sound like a good itinerary?

2. Which beaches would you recommend visiting after our hikes, given that we likely won’t arrive before 10 a.m.?

Thank you in advance for your help!

We are traveling to St. John for the first time in April, 2025. We are staying in Coral Bay and plan to do a lot of kayaking, snorkeling, and early morning hiking. Thank you for posting such detailed information. Planning just got easier!

I don’t know if you will be able to do so online, but there are beach shacks on Honeymoon Beach that rent beach and water gear. You may have to wait until you get there to rent whatever is available, or bring your own. If you are thinking of renting snorkels, we brought our own with us, since we used it multiple times while in the Virgin Islands and it is easy to carry around. Cheers, Julie
