Hello Inesh. Yes, at that time, most hiking trails in the Dolomites will be closed for the season. And not just the Dolomites, but other mountainous regions in Europe (Switzerland, Austria, etc). You could probably drive through the Dolomites in November and roads most likely will still be open, depending on weather conditions (we were in Italy last November and I remember checking the Dolomites weather conditions at that time and it looked as if many roads were open). They won’t have the beautiful green landscapes you typically see in photos. If you want to visit Italy, going farther south would be a better idea, such as Tuscany, Florence, the Cinque Terre, Venice, and Rome. Lake Garda and Lake Como might be nice that time of year (again, not green and lush, but crowds would be low). Cheers, Julie

I’ll be traveling to Italy in the first week of November with my parents. We really enjoy hiking and were hoping to explore the Dolomites, but I understand that many trails and areas may be closed around that time. Could you recommend other places we could visit instead — whether it’s good hiking spots that are still open, or beautiful towns and scenic regions that are great to experience in November?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hello Rina. I recommend taking a look at our 10 Day Italy Itinerary, which has several different ways to plan an Italy itinerary, depending on your interests, some with a car, some by public transportation. We also have a 14 Day Italy Itinerary which is primarily done by public transportation. If you have any questions after you look at those, let me know. Cheers, Julie

As far as location, I think Vincenza will work well for Venice, Verona, and Milan. It may be a bit too far from Lake Como, making that a longer day. If you are planning on using public transportation, you would have to research train/bus routes and timetables to see what kind of transportation time (and potential transfers) is involved. Cheers, Julie
